I loved the prose and descriptions in Emily's journal entries, but I liked them better when they were interspersed with the story line. In the middle of the book, there were just too many pages of journal, and it got a bit tiresome. ( Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2019 )

The publishing house that did those book also did some editions for the Emily series. When I learned that not only the same publishing house was releasing these: as well as finding out the series was written by the same author, I knew I had to have it. There are many and better reviews of the Emily trilogy (this is book 2) available online so I won't post a book review here, but can definitely encourage you to read! LM Montgomery is a beautiful writer and her works take you back to a simpler time. These books and all her works are just as beautiful and enjoyable as the end of Green Gables series ! • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Dee -- Inspirational re-issue. : It's wonderful to see LM Montgomery being published by Virago. Montgomery should be on the reading list for all young women. It's an inspirational trilogy about becoming a writer. It is full dedication to place and creativity. I've bought this trilogy for friends, old aunties and given a set to my local school for their library. If you have a woman in your life and you want to inspire her, if she's 11 or 21 or 81 treat her to these books, she will thank you. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 8, 2014 )

I might be a bit older than the intended audience but these books are lovely. Funny and charming with something important to say about independence and the importance of a career and ambition for women. Everything that matters really.
